Welcome to Authentique Hair Boutique

Promoting SELF-LOVE for your Hair, Body and Soul

About Us

Marie Petigny-Owner

Welcome to my world! I have been a hairstylist for almost 20 years, being a teenaged single-mom I had to provide for my son. It was tough but my passion for hair kept me going. In high school, my hair was always crisp, even if my wardrobe was not as fashionable. I remember being booked all weekend with my customers(friends and peers or word  of mouth referrals), we would talk, gossip, and most importantly create the image that they wanted. This for me, is very important because it has to do with self-expression; women of color use their hair to make a statement, or to express themselves because frankly, no one can take that away from us. We have our own ways of getting that hair straight, or getting that afro combed out properly, or simply getting a great treatment and head massage...ah that feels so good.

To remain a good mother to my son, I stayed home and did hair for many years out of my kitchen or living room or whatever space I had to work my magic hands with. I sometimes call myself a healer because of the transformations I have seen women go through during my career. I have fixed many bad perms in my lifetime as well as corrected a lot of damage, seen way too many hair loss issues and baldness in hairline areas that trouble me sometimes. Today, my son is 14 years old and in high school himself, him too is interested in my field. He has seen so many women come and go from our home that he is the perfect apprentice.  After my second son was born 3 years ago, I no longer wanted to do hair at home; I wanted to move up and inspire others to do the same. I know there are lots of kitchen hair dressers out there and my advice to you is... keep doing what you doing, stay on top of your business, build strong alliances that will be worth millions later on and don't give up; even when your clients don't respect your prices, or when they don't want to pay you or when they bring a crew/drama/b.s. at your house, dont give up!

Stay tuned, I am opening my own shop which is called Authentique Hair Boutique located at 2017 B Danforth ave, just a couple of steps away from Woodbine subway station on April 15, 2009.
